If you’ve ever wondered how to ride a motorcycle for the first time, this article is for you! Hitting the open road on your bike is a thrilling experience, but you’ll need to go through the process of learning the different strategies and techniques to enjoy a positive first motorcycle ride.

Here at Myers-Duren Harley-Davidson®, we work to spread the love of riding. That’s why we gathered up the following beginner’s motorcycle riding tips. If you have any questions or are looking to take a motorcycle class, visit our dealership. We are located in Tulsa, Oklahoma and proudly serve those in Broken Arrow, Jenks, Bixby, and Glenpool as well as Oklahoma statewide.

Motorcycle Class

The best way to learn how to ride a motorcycle for the first time is to take a class on the subject. Here you’ll get a dedicated teacher and a room full of fellow new riders all learning together. It’ll teach you everything you need to know for a successful first motorcycle ride. You may also come away with some new riding pals!

If you don’t own a bike just yet, that’s fine. Many courses will provide loaner models you can use during the class. You’ll be able to learn a range of motorcycle riding tips such as how to use the throttle, clutch, and more. If you want to sharpen your skills more, you can take intermediate and advanced courses down the road.

The Gear

To enjoy a safe first motorcycle ride, you’ll need to be wearing the proper safety gear. Remember that learning to ride will inevitably result in some bumps and bruises along the way. You might tip over, hit the ground, scrape against something, back into something, and so on. It’s important to be protected against these hazards (as well as the weather).

It starts with head protection. Find yourself a well-fitting and crash-tested helmet. Next, you’ll want sturdy outerwear to shield your skin against the sun (and, in the event of a fall, the pavement). You can seek out breathable and lightweight clothing so you won’t get too hot riding in the summer. Finally, get hearing protection. Anytime you hit the road and exceed 40 miles per hour, you are facing irreversible hearing loss. All you need is a pair of disposable earplugs or reusable wax balls.

Once you’ve gathered up enough motorcycle riding tips, your final step is to put them into action! New skills require repetition for them to stick. Spend some time riding in an empty parking lot or even a low-traffic street. Put all your motorcycle driving tips to use as your focus on your technique and slowly build up your muscle memory. As you improve your skills, you can venture out onto higher speed roads. With enough practice, you’ll be able to hit the freeway with confidence. Before you know it, you won’t be able to consider yourself a beginner anymore!

We hope you found these motorcycle driving tips helpful! Your first motorcycle ride is an unforgettable experience and it’s important to take the time to set yourself up for success.
